Why I feel like shutting out Instagram — Actor Kunle Remi

Actor Kunle Remi has spoken about the emotional toll of social media, describing the experience of logging into Instagram as exhausting due to heartbreaking news, disrespect, toxicity, and negativity.

Despite feeling the urge to shut out the platform, Remi said he cannot fully log out because his role has evolved beyond acting.

According to him, he now sees himself as a brand, storyteller, influencer, and light-bearer.

The actor said he often reminds himself that he still has humor to share, love to give, stories to tell, and light to shine, especially during difficult times.

He noted that opening the app these days feels like something one must pray about beforehand.

Remi urged users to be kind in online spaces, to be soft where the world is hard, and to be hope amid noise.

He added that shining light is needed now more than ever and described it as part of his responsibility.

Remi: “Low key… I’ve felt like shutting out Instagram lately.

“It’s exhausting waking up and almost being afraid to log in… afraid of the heartbreaking news, the disrespect, the toxicity, the negativity. It can be draining. But the truth is… I can’t fully log out.

“Some people can step away from social media and disappear for a while. But for me, I evolved into more than just an actor. I became a brand, a storyteller, an influencer… a light-bearer in my own way.

“And every now and then, I remind myself that I still have humor to share, love to give, stories to tell, and light to shine especially in dark times like these. Honestly, these days you almost have to pray before opening the app.

“So maybe this is just a gentle reminder: If all you can do today is shine light… please do. Be kind in this space. Be soft where the world is hard. Be hope where there is noise.
