Celebrity fashion designer Victoria James, popularly known as Veekee James, has defended her luxury pricing structure, revealing that she does not charge below ₦1 million to create a dress due to her massive business investment, brand equity, and creative effort.
Speaking during a recent podcast appearance, the high-profile designer addressed frequent public backlash over her high rates, explaining that clients are paying for top-tier craftsmanship, spiritual inspiration, and significant brand value.
"When I started fashion designing, I did not just wake up and start calling prices. It took a lot, and there's so much that I have invested in my business to make it what it is today.
"I don’t charge below ₦1 million to sew a dress for a customer because I’ve invested so much in my business. Do you know the value you get when you wear my clothes?" Veekee James stated.
The designer further opened up about her creative process, attributing her intricate, signature gowns to divine inspiration during moments of worship.
"Do we want to start from what it takes me to actually create a design for you? Because it takes me a lot. Sometimes I'm sitting down, I don't even know what to do.
"Sometimes I have to just even start worshipping for God to actually show me what to do... The Veekee James brand is a big name in itself... so these are the things that people pay for," she revealed.
Veekee James is one of Nigeria's most sought-after fashion designers, famous for tailoring high-end corset gowns and bespoke bridal wear for A-list celebrities, red-carpet events, and luxury weddings across Africa.
The designer frequently attributes her creative success and unique silhouette cuts to her Christian faith, regularly posting worship sessions from her Lagos fashion house.
