Popular Nigerian disc jockey Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has explained why she moved away from her signature pink look, which had become a defining part of her public identity for several years.
The billionaire heiress said she no longer wanted to be associated with a particular colour, explaining that personal growth had influenced her evolving fashion choices.
Cuppy made the revelation during an interview with GQ Poland, excerpts of which were shared on X on Friday, November 6, 2026.
According to her, although pink had represented her personality and identity for years, she had come to realise that the qualities associated with the colour could be expressed through other shades.
“I was known for the colour pink and it was my identity for so many years, and a lot of people are asking what happened to the pink.
“I want people to understand that actually growth is something that will always come, and I don't think I should be boxed into a colour,” she said.
She explained that pink represented power, vibrancy, self-expression and confidence, adding that those qualities remained part of her personality despite her change in style.
The DJ also linked her former fashion identity to her early experiences in the entertainment industry, which she described as male-dominated.
Reflecting on her career journey, Cuppy said she adopted pink when she entered the industry about 17 years ago as a way of expressing her femininity while establishing herself professionally.
“When I think about my style, I think about a woman in a male-dominated industry. Maybe also when I first started 17 years ago, a young girl that was using pink to represent her femininity and stay in the room,” she said.
However, she noted that her experiences over the years had given her the confidence to express her femininity through different colours.
“Now that I've been through a lot of doors and kicked down some windows, I feel like I can represent my femininity through any colour,” she added.
Cuppy described her current fashion style as vibrant, grounded and ethnical, emphasising that her decision to move away from pink does not mean she has abandoned the qualities the colour represented.
