Nigerian musician David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has disclosed that he does not consider cannabis, sometimes known as "weed," to be a hard drug.
The award-winning singer made this statement on the most recent episode of The Morning Hustle podcast while talking about his foundation's intention to donate to orphans and combat drug usage.
Although he doesn't consider marijuana to be a hard drug, Davido noted that some people are calling him a hypocrite for smoking marijuana while making donations to combat drug misuse.
He said: “This year, I’m donating to the fight against drug abuse among youths. I don’t count weed as a hard drug. Some people are saying I smoke weed but I don’t count weed as a drug.
“A lot of people have been going through a lot recently. Drug addiction is becoming rampant. So I want to donate to that cause to help them quit.”
Recall that Davido earlier declared that he would donate N300 million to orphanages and a foundation that fights youth drug addiction and abuse in honour of his birthday this year.
Sharing the information on his X page, he wrote, “Once again, my birthday this year, we are donating to orphanages and a charity that helps young people stay away from drug abuse and addiction. This year, it’s ₦300m. Details to follow soon.”
This action carries on Davido's custom of celebrating his birthday by giving back to the community.
