Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has revealed that high-profile guests were forced to flee the recent wedding of popular content creators Peller and Jarvis like criminals after aggressive street thugs (agberos) surrounded the venue.

Speaking during a recent radio interview, the vocal musician described how guests had to leave the venue quietly and quickly to avoid a large crowd of local area boys, locally known as Agberos that had swarmed the premises to demand money and harass attendees.

Kuti explained that the size and hostility of the crowd made a normal, dignified exit impossible for the celebrities, dignitaries, and wealthy guests in attendance.

"We had to leave the wedding like we were thieves. Everybody escaped from that wedding. Nobody left the wedding like a big man. We didn't leave like the big men and women we were when we arrived. We left like we were criminals being chased," Seun Kuti recounted.

On the day of the event, videos showed the crowd of youths around the venue, ambushing guests at their vehicles and forcing many to give them money to avoid violent escalation or property damage.

In Lagos, large public or high-society gatherings (Owanbe) often attract crowds of uninvited street youths (Agberos) who demand cash handouts from wealthy guests and celebrities, frequently resorting to intimidation or physical blockage of vehicles.

Calls have been made on social media for the Lagos State government to address the issue, which many have predicted could escalate.
