The family of a groundnut seller who recently received a ₦1 million cash gift from popular content creator Peller has been forced to flee their home after local street thugs, known as Agberos, swarmed their residence demanding a share of the money.

According to a video shared by the young lady who received the money from Peller, her family has now taken refuge at that local church out of fear for their safety, as multiple groups of aggressive youths continue to patrol their house demanding their cuts.

Trouble began after a viral video showed Peller gifting the woman ₦1 million in exchange for ₦3,000 worth of groundnuts, exposing the family's location to neighborhood extortionists.

"I went out all day, when I came back, all my neighbours told me that area boys have been coming by our house in search of me.

"The boys claimed that they are coming for their share of the ₦1 million gift from Peller. Different groups of boys have been coming... Because of that, we can’t even sleep at home," she explained.

In an emotional appeal, her mother begged the gang members to spare the family from harm and allow them to return to their dwelling.

"We are pleading with the area boys. Please have mercy on us. We are scared," her mother wept. "All day, they have been coming demanding various amounts. Some say they want ₦50,000, others say they want ₦100,000. We are scared that they may come back at night for us," she pleaded.

Local street gangs regularly claim "ownership rights" over cash distributed within their territories, forcefully demanding cuts from beneficiaries of public goodwill, street vendors, and event hosts.

Public commentators have repeatedly cautioned influencers to deliver life-changing financial aid privately or through digital transfers to protect vulnerable beneficiaries from physical danger.
