VeryDarkMan's dream car: What you need to know about the legendary 1995 Hummer pickup

Controversial social media critic, Martin Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, set tongues wagging online after sharing photos of himself posing beside his dream car, the 1995 Hummer pickup.

The Hummer H1 is not your everyday pickup. It was originally built from the U.S. military’s Humvee, the tough machine soldiers used in war zones.

In 1995, AM General released the pickup version, and it quickly became one of the most famous models ever made.

This beast came with two engine choices: a 6.2-liter diesel V8 that produced 150 horsepower, or a bigger 6.5-liter diesel V8 with 170 horsepower. Both were paired with a 4-speed automatic gearbox and a strong full-time four-wheel-drive system. Simply put, the H1 was made to go anywhere.

What really made it stand out was its off-road power. With 16 inches of ground clearance, it could climb over rocks and obstacles most SUVs wouldn’t dare.

Its sharp approach and departure angles made steep hills easy, and even though it looked huge, it only had room for four people inside. Still, it could tow about 7,000 pounds, making it as practical as it was tough.

The H1 also came with some clever features. Drivers could inflate or deflate the tires from inside the cabin using the Central Tire Inflation System, making it ready for sand, mud, or rocky roads.

It had run-flat tires, a heavy steel body, and could even drive through water as deep as 30 inches. No wonder stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger once proudly owned one.

When VeryDarkMan posted pictures with the H1 and wrote, “I FINALLY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SNAP WITH MY DREAM CAR… ANCESTORS COME THROUGH FOR ME ASAP,” his fans had a lot to say.

Many agreed the Hummer matched his bold personality, while others joked that even his “ancestors” might struggle to buy one because of the price.

The biggest surprise came when businessman Isaac Fayose promised ₦10 million to help him get one, sparking debate. However, he later responded that he'd rather sell the car and use the money for charity.
