Media personality Toke Makinwa has explained why she no longer pays tithes, citing concerns about how some Nigerian churches handle finances.
Speaking on WithChude, she said many churches appear financially self-sufficient, funding lavish projects while operating like untaxed family businesses.
Her new stance contrasts with her 2020 view of tithing as a “divine partnership.”
“I stopped paying tithes to the church because all the churches I know are rich,” she said.
Makinwa revealed that she now redirects her tithe money to direct aid, including paying rent, supporting widows, and covering medical bills, though she still makes occasional church donations.
