The iconic ring that late hip-hop legend Tupac Shakur wore during his final public appearance has been purchased for a staggering $1 million which is equivalent to N793,730,000 during a public auction in New York.

According to CBS News, Tupac wore the ring on September 4, 1996, when he attended the MTV Video Music Awards, which was his last public appearance.

The rapper was shot and killed in a drive-by in Las Vegas, a killing that not only shocked the entire globe but also left a lot of questions unanswered.

In actuality, 27 years have passed since the then-25-year-old was shot, but the case is still open.

Tupac's legacy lives on

Tupac, sometimes shortened to 2Pac, may have died nearly three decades ago but he left behind an enduring legacy that is still felt to date.

Apart from being considered one of the greatest rappers of all time after selling 75 million records, he was at the core of the feud between the West Coast faction and their rivals on the East Coast.

Six months after his demise, East Coast rapper Christopher Wallace aka "The Notorious BIG" was gunned down in what has always been touted as revenge for Tupac's death.

That explains why any memorabilia associated with the "Changes" songwriter continues to hold immense sentimental and historical value.

Most valuable hip-hop artefact ever sold

The winning bid was way above the pre-sale estimate of between $200,000 (N158,746,000) and $300,000 (N238,119,000), as reported by Rolling Stone, making it the most valuable hip-hop artefact ever sold.

Details indicate that the "California Love" hitmaker designed the ring over the course of a few months through his godmother Yaasmyn Fula, who put it up for sale.

The design was influenced by 16th century Italian philosopher Niccolo Machiavelli's political manifesto "The Prince," a book Tupac read while he was in prison.

On the ring are engraved the words "Pac & Dada 1996," the latter being the name of his girlfriend; Kidada Jones.
