Too toxic for me’ – Ireti Doyle gives reasons for disappearing on social media

Popular Nollywood actress, Ireti Doyle has regretted that social media is gradually becoming too toxic and unsafe for her.

The 58-year-old who had been absent from the media space in the last few months made a rare appearance on Instagram detailing reasons for her decision to stay away from the social media.

She said, “I used to wonder what I’d do with myself once I became an ‘empty nester’… now I know. Had to disappear again. The streets of Social Media (nay, the world in general) is becoming too toxic for my quiet soul. How have you been? I hope you’re protecting yourself?

Born on May 3, 1967 in Ondo State, she has made her mark in the nation’s entertainment sector after spending majority of her early live in United States of America, Boston to be precise. She is a graduate of Theatre Arts from the University of Jos, after making her return to the country.

Her career began in front of the camera as a producer and presenter, most notably creating and hosting the popular fashion and lifestyle show ‘Oge with Iretiola’ for ten years. She also anchored programmes like ‘Morning Ride’ on STV.

Doyle’s breakthrough in acting came in the late 1990s, and she has since built an acclaimed career with performances in films such as ‘Sitanda’ (2006), ‘Across the Niger’ (2009), and ‘Torn’ (2013).

Her work has earned her several accolades, including a Best Supporting Actress win at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

She was married to broadcaster Patrick Doyle, a union that ended in divorce.
