Actress Tonto Dikeh has cautioned against allowing public opinion to dictate personal worth and life direction, describing public validation as a “thief of destinies.”
In a social media post, Dikeh said many people delay or derail their goals by prioritising acceptance over purpose.
She noted that the constant need for approval makes individuals vulnerable to societal pressure and fear of criticism.
Instead of pursuing their vision, she said, people abandon dreams, hide talents, and miss opportunities to meet expectations and trends.
Dikeh argued that fulfillment comes from knowing one’s identity and staying committed to purpose, even without applause.
She added that public opinion is temporary while destiny is permanent, and that greatness often requires valuing conviction over popularity.
She urged people not to let applause or criticism drown out their sense of purpose.
Dikeh wrote: “Public Validation: The Thief of Destinies. Public validation becomes dangerous when people allow the opinions, applause, or approval of others to determine their worth and direction in life. Many destinies have been delayed, diverted, or destroyed because individuals chose acceptance over purpose.
“When a person constantly seeks validation, they become vulnerable to societal pressure, fear of criticism, and the need to impress others. Instead of pursuing their God-given vision, they begin to live according to expectations and trends. Dreams are abandoned, talents are hidden, and opportunities are missed because of the desire to be approved by the crowd.
“True fulfillment comes from knowing who you are and staying committed to your purpose, even when others do not understand or applaud your journey. Public opinion is temporary, but destiny is permanent. Those who achieve greatness are often those who learn to value purpose above popularity and conviction above validation.
“Never let the applause or criticism of people become louder than the voice of your purpose”.
