Tonto Dikeh launches prayer ministry in Abuja

Former Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has officially launched her prayer ministry, New Wine Prophetic Tabernacle (NWPT), in Abuja.

The 40-year-old actress, who has in recent months been vocal about her Christian faith and plans to venture into ministry, was seen in a video shared on Instagram leading worshippers in an intense prayer session.

Tonto described NWPT as an interdenominational altar, spiritual home and global movement dedicated to prayer, revival, spiritual training and the awakening of consecrated believers.

According to her, the ministry is not a conventional church but “an intense gathering” of people consecrated and equipped for the purposes of God.

She said the ministry is founded on the biblical principle of “new wine” and is intended for believers seeking deeper spiritual experiences, revival and transformation.

Tonto's move into ministry follows a period of increased public expression of her Christian faith. In February 2026, she completed a discipleship programme at Pastor Jerry Eze’s Streams of Joy International and shared her certificate with her followers.

Her religious activities have, however, attracted controversy. In March 2026, a video of her participating in a deliverance session involving a schoolgirl sparked criticism online and reportedly prompted a human rights lawyer to threaten legal action.

With the launch of NWPT, Tonto joins several Nigerian entertainers who have transitioned from entertainment into Christian ministry, including Banky W, Zack Orji, Eucharia Anunobi and Liz Benson.
