Nigerian actress Omotola Jalade has opened up about an experience in Hollywood where she claims a major studio showed little concern for accurately representing African languages in a production.

Speaking on the Its A Wrap show, Omotola revealed that while working with a major Hollywood studio on a project involving African languages, she noticed inaccuracies in the use of Egun and Yoruba during a sound recording session.

According to her, she approached the project supervisor after realizing that some of the voices being recorded did not reflect the correct languages required.

She suggested using native speakers of Egun and Yoruba to lead the recordings, while others could handle pidgin English and background voices to ensure authenticity.

However, Omotola said her concerns were dismissed by the supervisor, who allegedly told her, "the studio doesn't care."

"I said, 'You don't care that you get the language for an African film right?' She said, 'No," Omotola recounted.

The actress said the response deeply affected her, describing it as a reminder that the struggle for accurate African representation in global productions continues.

"I said to myself, wow, the struggle continues," she added.
