Afrobeats superstar Davido has reflected on his early financial struggles before fame, shedding light on the inspiration behind his breakout hit "Back When" featuring Naeto C.
Speaking in a recent clip from the UK-based Uncut podcast, the singer clarified that despite growing up around wealth, there was a period when he was genuinely broke.
He explained that coming from a wealthy background or associating with affluent peers does not automatically translate to personal financial independence.
"There was a time I was broke; that’s why I said, ‘back when I was broke yo’ on the ‘Back When' track ft Naeto C.
"I have rich friends with rich parents that live in mansions in Ikoyi with police escorts and all, but they don’t gat no money," he shared.
Davido's comments highlight the distinction between family wealth and personal earnings, recalling the humble beginnings that fuelled his drive to carve out his own massive success in the music industry.
