Tersy Akpata lands role in New Husbands of Lagos

Actress Tersy Akpata has landed a role in the drama series, New Husbands of Lagos, where she plays Idara, a businesswoman, wife and mother navigating the demands of her career and family.

Akpata said she connected with the character because of their shared Akwa Ibom heritage, adding that the role also gave her the opportunity to speak Ibibio on screen.

“Idara is a business owner, wife and mother. I enjoyed playing her, given her background, as I’m an Akwa Ibomite too. Although people assume I’m Yoruba because of my surname, Akpata, if you’ve met me, you’ll attest to the fact that I speak Ibibio whenever it comes naturally.

“Idara gave me the freedom to speak my dialect, and I really loved that,” she said.

The actress is also known for her portrayal of Ewa in the fourth season of Wura, a role she described as a rewarding experience because of the audience’s response to the character.

“I am excited that the character resonates with many. Playing Ewa has been a deeply rewarding journey, and seeing how strongly the audience connects with her story and growth makes every moment on set worth it,” she said.

In New Husbands of Lagos, Akpata stars alongside Ernest Obi, Linc Edochie, Ese Idia, Casey Edema, Tochi Obika, Keira Hewatch, Chukwuemeka Elijah, Maryann Apollo, Jay Franklyn, Shammah Agah, Oliviasandra Chuma and others.
