Like many others, Nigerian comedian Maryam Apaokagi, widely known as Taaooma, has responded to the Super Eagles' experience at the airport in Libya.
Nigeria's football squad was reportedly stranded at the Al Abaq International Airport in Libya not too long ago. The team had traveled to North Africa to play the Mediterranean Knights in the second leg of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification.
The Super Eagles squad was reportedly kept overnight at the airport after their flight was diverted in midair.
Taaooma was among the numerous Nigerians who reacted after word spread about the Super Eagles' predicament at the Libyan airport.
The comedian tweeted on her official X page about how vital it is for Nigerians to be patriotic.
She said Nigerians ought to quit criticizing their country whenever they get the chance.
She said, “Be patriotic. Don’t bash your country at every opportunity you get.”
Many Nigerians took notice of Taaooma's remark regarding the Super Eagles' situation in Libya, and it caused mixed emotions.
The comic faced criticism since some online users didn't agree with her viewpoint. However, a lot of people were supportive of her.
Taaooma is not the only celebrity who has weighed in on the situation. Popular gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey also commented on it, calling the act unfortunate and unacceptable.
He called on football officials and the federal government to take action quickly and probe the issue.
