Spotify addresses Burna Boy as a new cat?

A startling revelation regarding the creators and forerunners of the music genre "Afrobeats" has been made by the digital music platform, Spotify.

The Afrobeats genre, according to a post on Spotify's website titled "The birth of a sensation" was created by two West African nations, Nigeria and Ghana.

According to Spotify, a study done by the streaming platform revealed that there are differing views regarding who is the true creator of the Afrobeats genre.

Some people think it was originally birthed by Ghanaians while others think Nigerians birthed it.

In the article, Spotify made a statement that has sparked debate on social media about whether or not the streaming service agreed with Davido's claim that Burna Boy was a "new cat."

According to Spotify, certain singers who are currently on the rise are able to succeed and place the Afrobeats genre on the international map because of the sacrifice and labor of Afrobeats giants like Fela Kuti, who is regarded as the genre's founder.

It said: "A lot of people walked, so that the likes of Rema, Burna Boy, and Tems could run."

Recall that Davido caused controversy for weeks after stating his picks for the top five artists who would dominate the Nigerian music scene? He named Rema, Tems, Asake, and Buju, among others.


Davido claimed that he and Wizkid were the first young artists to succeed in the music industry while making this claim.

He stated that Burna Boy is a "old cat" and that he and Wizkid belong in the "old cat" period.
