A former Lagos Deputy Speaker and current Senator representing Lagos Central, Wasiu Eshilokun Sanni, was captured on video presenting cash gifts to the wives and children of late veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, during a prayer session held in his honour.

According to the gesture, Ogogo's two wives are to receive ₦1 million each, while his children will get ₦10 million, with an additional ₦5 million set aside for their education and health. Eshilokun made the announcement while addressing an ecstatic crowd gathered at the late actor's residence.

The event was a Fidau prayer organised by the Odunfa Caucus, a group Ogogo belonged to, held on Thursday, September 10, at Odunfa Street, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, and attended by several actors and actresses paying their respects to the veteran entertainer.

Ogogo, born Taiwo Babatunde Hassan on October 31, 1959, in Ilaro, Ogun State, died on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, after a battle with stage-four cancer that had initially been treated as an ulcer.

His death was announced by his daughter, Kira Taiwo, during an emotional Instagram Live session. He was buried according to Islamic rites in his hometown of Ilaro the following day, in a ceremony attended by numerous colleagues and dignitaries from the Yoruba film industry.

A towering figure in Nollywood for over four decades, Ogogo built a career spanning acting, directing, producing and screenwriting, with notable roles in films including Owo Blow, Omo Ghetto, Bank Alert, and Kunle Afolayan's Aníkúlápó, in which he played Alaafin Ademuyiwa.

His contributions to Yoruba cinema earned him widespread recognition, including the City People Movie Lifetime Achievement Award, and tributes following his death poured in from across Nigeria's political and entertainment spheres, including from President Bola Tinubu, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun.
