Afrobeats musician Michael Adebayo Olayinka, better known by his stage name Ruger, has voiced concerns about the rise of untalented musicians in Nigeria's music industry as a result of widespread advertising.
He claimed that the circumstance has been painful for him since, with sufficient funding for advertising, an artist can become well-known even if they lack skill.
Taking to his X account, he wrote: “The music scene has been hurting me coz no matter how shit an artist is, once there’s money for hype, Otilo.”
Ruger also bemoaned the fact that some performers, particularly while performing on stage, employ autotunes.
He said, “Now, let’s talk about the gaddamn autotunes on the mic when y’all perform. Next time, tell your engineer to shut it down when you’re about to speak coz you be speaking in Tunez wahalaaaaaa. Well, Ruger don’t need that shit. thank you,” he wrote.
