Popular Nigerian small-screen actress Ajara Lasisi, popularly known as Aunty Ajara, has died after battling a liver-related illness.
A doctor confirmed her death to her family earlier on Thursday, February 5, 2026, following what relatives described as a brief battle with the illness.
Announcing the tragic development in a viral video on social media, the late actress’ elder brother, Ridwan Lazeez, expressed appreciation to Nigerians and members of the film industry for their financial support while appealing that further donations be discontinued.
“I am a brother to Ajara. The doctor has confirmed to us that she has died. The family appreciates all Nigerians, we appreciate film industry. I am also using this medium to tell Nigerians to stop sending money that she has died,” Lazeez said in the video seen by SaharaReporters.
Also confirming the death, actress Mama No Network shared the video on her Instagram page and wrote: “With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved actress, Aunty Ajara. She passed on overnight after a long and courageous battle with illness.
“During this difficult period, Ajara received immense love, prayers, and financial support from kind-hearted people across the world. We are deeply grateful to everyone who stood by her with prayers, contributions, encouragement, and compassion.
“At this moment, we kindly urge family, friends, and the general public to please stop sending money to the previously shared account, as it is no longer required. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, loved ones, and everyone grieving this painful loss. May her soul rest in perfect peace.”
It was earlier reported that several Nollywood stars, including Wumi Toriola, Mide Martins, Afeez Owo and Ronke Oshodi Oke, had publicly solicited financial assistance for Aunty Ajara amid her deteriorating health.
The actress was earlier seen in a viral video begging for help while lying on a hospital bed and placed on oxygen. In the clip, the pregnant actress was heard saying, “Please help me.”
Following the circulation of the video, numerous entertainers took to their social media platforms to appeal to Nigerians for financial support, a development that also sparked criticism from some netizens who accused celebrities of frequently resorting to public fundraising for colleagues.
Reacting to the backlash at the time, Mama No Network stated in another video that colleagues had contributed over N5 million toward the actress’ medical care but that her condition continued to worsen.
“Good evening everyone. I’m here because of Ajara. It was you guys who advised us that the way we posted RIP is too much. Please, for God’s sake, I’m pleading with you. Ajara is in critical condition,” she said.
“This is not content. We need financial support from the public and serious prayers. It’s not that Ajara has not been working, but she has been using most of her earnings to care for her mother, who is suffering from a stroke. The funniest part is that she’s pregnant. I’m also surprised to now hear that she’s also battling a liver-related illness.”
Other celebrities who had joined the call for help included actress Kemity, actor Jamiu Azeez, actress Bimpe Oyebade and singer Lanre Alewilese, among others.
