At least six new cases of the deadly coronavirus have been recorded in Oyo State, bringing the total number recorded in the state to 143.

The new cases were amongst the 226 infections announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Tuesday night.

According to the statistics, 226 cases were recorded in 16 Nigerian states, taking the national toll to a total of 6,401 infections, 1734 recoveries and 192 deaths.

Experts believe that the spike in COVID-19 cases in Oyo is coming from responses to the state government's call for residents who believe they had come in contact with COVID-19 cases.

The government had also admonished people with COVID-19 symptoms such as cough, fever, tiredness, body ache and shortness of breath as well as health workers who had been in contact with high-risk groups to present themselves for test.
