Outrage as video of children waiting for food in rain goes viral in Auchi

A viral video from Auchi, Edo State, has sparked widespread reactions online, showing dozens of children standing barefoot in heavy rain while queuing for food.

The clip making the rounds on social media captures children in worn-out clothing holding bowls as they wait in muddy conditions for meals like porridge and jollof rice.

The footage quickly gained traction, drawing mixed reactions from Nigerians.

While many expressed heartbreak and sympathy, others criticised the government over worsening poverty.

A smaller group, however, questioned the authenticity of the video, describing it as exaggerated or staged.

The situation reflects growing concerns about food insecurity in Nigeria. According to projections by the United Nations, millions of Nigerians could face severe hunger in 2026 due to rising food prices, insecurity, and disruptions in agricultural production.

The incident has also raised questions about inequality, especially as Edo State remains part of Nigeria’s oil-producing region.

@DikenaClinton___"These are the only kind of videos from Africa that will make it to western media and front pages of their most read newspapers, and you can’t stop from thinking it’s a purely orchestrated propaganda video by one foreign agent in disguise of helping, I could see houses around in the video, the children had no business lining up under the rain to receive food, it’s a propaganda."

@MrFrika___"This is heartbreaking… in a country so rich, kids still have to stand in the rain just to eat? We really need to do better. J"

@nathniel_xr___"Look how children are shaking

Look how hungry they are

Yet celebrities and footballers go all around buying luxury cars and building luxury houses that would be useless in a matter of days

When children are suffering and die

When would humanity become wise and celebrities stop wasting money on cars and use the money to bless people

I am calling on all the celebrities to put all their funds together and do their part in alleviating poverty in Nigeria

This is a call to action"

@TILhub___"We need more than viral outrage—sustained school feeding programs, emergency relief that actually reaches rural communities, and real accountability on why basic food security still fails so many Nigerian children.May God comfort and provide for these little ones, and may we all be moved to do more than just feel sad."

@vitalis_ajang___"Where's this exactly?

What location is this, can you imagine this?

I won't be surprised to know it's an AI generated video because what's this nonsense for?

That's the height of it"

@BakareDamsel___"God! Pls bless everyone"
