In a viral video from July 2023, ace Nigerian music executive and Mavin Records boss Michael Ajereh, better known as Don Jazzy, revealed that he once had the chance to sign Davido and Wizkid to his label.
During the interview, Don Jazzy explained that he chose not to sign Davido because he believed Davido would succeed on his own and thus didn't sign him. He also mentioned that he would have signed Wizkid if Banky W had not signed him first, describing it as a missed blessing.
The Mavin Records boss roster included talented star artistes like Rema, Ayra Starr, Crayon, Ladipoe, Johnny Drille, Magixx, Boy Spyce, and Lifesize Teddy.
He said, "I had the opportunity for David, obviously, but I didn't because I kind of figured he'd be fine. For Wizkid, obviously, I couldn't because Banky got to him first. That would have been amazing."
Don Jazzy also mentioned other Nigerian music stars he would have signed if given the chance, such as Simi, Teni, and Falz.
