Obi, Tinubu, Atiku: The most followed presidential candidates on social media

The competition to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari after his tenure is heating up.

The candidates have sort the use of social media to push their campaign promises to millions of eligible voters in Nigeria and potential voters in the diaspora.

While it is generally accepted that elections are not won or lost based on online sentiments, there is no doubt that a candidate's popularity, at least on social media, is reflected in the number of followers they command.

MyNigeria looks at the following of the three major presidential candidates which include Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

Bola Ahmed Tinubu (APC)

The former Lagos governor is the least followed candidate on Twitter. He currently has 1.6 million followers on the micro-blogging app. On Instagram, he has 192K followers and 331,210 followers on Facebook. He currently has 2,123,210.

Atiku Abubakar (PDP)

Atiku Abubakar has the highest number of followers on social media. He currently has 6,439,000 followers across all platforms. He has 4.7M followers on Twitter, 539K followers on Instagram, and 1.2 million followers on Facebook.

Peter Obi (LP)

With a total of 4,218,112, Peter Obi ranks second amongst the candidates. He currently has 2.9 million followers on Twitter, 561K followers on Instagram and 757, 112 followers on Facebook.
