Nollywood star Nonso Diobi has described how his resemblance to seasoned actress Hilda Dokubo facilitated his first significant break in the Nigerian movie industry.

The actor noted that Hilda Dokubo had seen him at an audition and asked the director to use him as her brother in the film because of their resemblance.

Nonso Diobi who made this known while speaking in a recent episode of the ‘Nollywood Hardcore’ podcast, said, “Back to the story of how I got my first movie role. I was at an audition and I started hearing people calling me from afar. I approached. Before I could get close to them, Hilda Dokubo said, ‘This young boy looks like me. He can play my brother.’

That was how I finally got my first role after three years and more than 1000 auditions. I didn’t even audition for it.”

After taking a sabbatical from the screen, the Nollywood star—who has acted in numerous films with performers like Ini Edo, Oge Okoye, Chioma Okpotha, Mike Ezuruonye, and Ngozi Ezeonu, among others—returned in 2023 after telling his followers what was causing the action. He also said that since acting is his passion, he had many more films planned for them.
