Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Mary Remmy Njoku, has shared a candid reflection on postpartum depression, urging men to better understand and appreciate the transformation women experience after childbirth.

In an Instagram post on Saturday, Njoku described postpartum depression as “mourning the death of the girl you once were and learning to embrace the birth of the woman you are becoming.”

She noted that motherhood brings profound changes, physically, emotionally, and mentally, and that partners must adapt to the evolution that comes with it.

“Motherhood is as real as it gets.

“So, to truly love the mother of your children, stop trying to revive the girl she once was.

“She is gone. Instead, get to know the woman she has become,” Njoku wrote.

The Rok Studios founder, known for her outspoken views on family and gender balance, also offered a light-hearted perspective to men, encouraging them to appreciate the beauty of transformation in their partners.

“So, my dear men, look at the bright side: you get to love ‘different’ women at different stages of your marriage or relationship.

“Brothers, nature has given variety all along. Enjoy!” Njoku added.

Her post has since sparked widespread engagement online, with many followers praising her for shedding light on the emotional journey of mothers and the need for empathy in relationships.
