No marriage, no entry — Laide Bakare sets conditions for suitors

Actress Laide Bakare has said no man is allowed to visit her home unless they are married, stressing the need for commitment and responsibility in relationships.

Speaking in an interview, Bakare maintained that a man’s role is to take charge and provide, adding that any suitor must demonstrate seriousness by paying her bride price.

She further explained that her outlook on relationships is pragmatic, noting that she does not subscribe to the traditional notion of love but instead values liking, appreciation, and respect in a partner.

She wrote, “No man can come to my house until we are married. I don’t love o, let’s leave love aside. I like, I appreciate and respect, but I don’t like love. We will do anything in his house, but if he wants to come to my house, he should pay the bride price. He is the man; he should be responsible.

“He should come and carry me to his house. How can you be coming to my house and not putting a ring on it? It is better for me to hang my clothes in your house than for you to hang your clothes in my house.”
