A photo of the oldest mosque in Lagos, Shitta-Bey Mosque, has caused a stir on social media.

The picture which was recently shared on social media by the official Twitter page of the state government has since received several comments with some commending the strength of the building.

According to the post, the mosque was built in 1892 and is one of the oldest mosques in Nigeria.

The mosque was designated as a national monument by the Nigerian Commission for Museums and Monuments in the year 2013.

It was founded by Sierra Leonean-born Nigerian, Mohammed Shitta and has been considered one of Nigeria's most important historical infrastructures.
