Controversial Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been released from Kuje prison, as confirmed by his activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
In a post on his X page, Adeyanju wrote, “Speed Darlington is out of Kuje Prison.”
Fondly referred to as Akpi, Speed Darlington was granted bail by an Abuja court after pressure was put on the Nigeria Police Force to arraign him prior to his release.
Akpi had petitioned DIG Dasuki Galadanchi, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau, Abuja, regarding his prolonged detention.
In the petition, he urged the DIG to comply with a court order challenging his continued detention by the police.
Speed Darlington was initially arrested based on a petition from Grammy Award-winning singer Burna Boy, who accused him of having an inappropriate relationship with embattled United States rapper and music executive Sean Combs, also known as P. Diddy.
Nigerians have since taken to social media to share their thoughts on Akpi's release.
