Nigerian returnee gives birth on plane returning from UAE

A Nigerian female returnee has given birth on a plane returning to Nigeria from the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, according to reports.

The mid-air delivery was confirmed by the Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, on the official Twitter account of NIDCOM.

The mother Mrs Kafayat Amusan and baby are in "good condition," according to NIDCOM, who said that the mother is "currently on admission at a Hospital, in Dubai."

"She put to bed, onboard the plane,30 minutes after departure, which resulted in the plane returning back to Dubai after take off."

"Emirates Airline had to change to another aircraft which is now en route to Lagos with 265 returnees on board.

"The Chairman/CEO Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa congratulated Mrs Amusan for another addition in her family and prayed she return safely to the country," NIDCOM's statement read.

The woman was amongst the 265 Nigerians returning from Dubai to Lagos on Wednesday as earlier informed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in the process of evacuating Nigerians from abroad and in accordance with Nigeria Centre for Disease Control guidelines, the evacuees will undergo a mandatory 14-day supervised quarantine in a monitored environment.

"In this regard, Emirates Airlines is scheduled to evacuate the first batch of 265 Nigerians from Dubai, United Arab Emirates and they will arrive at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, 6th May 2020 at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

"Arrangements for hotel accommodation in Lagos and Abuja have been made for the evacuation process," Onyeama had said in a statement through the ministry’s spokesperson, Ferdinand Nwonye.
