Nigerian celebrity beefs that trended earlier this year

Celebrity feuds Celebrity feuds

As people co-habit, there will inevitably be agreements and conflicts anywhere there are lots of people present.

Despite the presence of celebrities, this is the same in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Celebrities' fame seems to cast a bright light on both their friendships and their disagreements.

Fans have seen both lovely celebrity friendships and celebrity feuds on social media throughout the years.

This article sheds light on a few celebrity disputes that have been trending and evoking reactions on social media in recent months.

Five celebrity feuds that trended earlier this year

1. AY Makun and Basketmouth

Despite the fact that male celebrities seem to fight less frequently than their female colleagues, the long-standing dispute between renowned comedians Bright Okpocha better known as Basketmouth and Ayodeji Richard Makun widely known as AY Makun gained attention on social media after they both spoke on various platforms concerning their dispute.

According to AY, he performed on a certain Basketmouth show as early as 2006, and at one point, his senior colleague failed to pay him which resulted in some back and forth.

Basketmouth speaking on why he invited AY's wife to his wedding and excluded AY on the guest list, stated that he didn't invite AY nor his wife because AY has and will never be his friend.

The issue between the two comedians saw celebrities, colleagues, fans and followers adding their voice to it as others urged them to reconcile their differences while others also criticized them.

2. Don Jazzy and Olamide

The Headies Awards' organizers had no idea that 2015 would go down in history as their most memorable year. It was unforgettable, but not for the right reasons.

Following YBNL boss Olamide's appearance on the Headies stage to criticize the event's producers and Don Jazzy's Mavins after Reekado Banks won the Next Rated Award over Lil Kesh, social media undoubtedly went ablaze.

3. Bobrisky and Papaya Ex

When it comes to celebrity feuds, Bobrisky seems to be a recurring name, which begs the question of why.

Early this year, the crossdresser and social media influencer Papaya Ex made news after they both nearly got physical at an event.

This happened after weeks of them criticizing one another online. James Brown, a younger colleague of Bobrisky's, made sure to exacerbate the situation with his tangential remarks and social media posts.

4. Doyin and Whitemoney

Whitemoney during an interview on media personality Nedu Wazobia's "The Honest Bunch Podcast" made a controversial statement that generated mixed reactions on social media.

According to Whitemoney, no woman is out of a man's league provide the man has money.

Reacting to this, Doyin caused an online buzz after expressing her displeasure at Whitemoney's statement. Doyin dragged Whitemoney saying that it is not always about the money and some women will always be out of the league of some men if their values, orientation and leadership skills are poor.

Their argument did not end abruptly as celebrities and social media users weighed in the issue with varied opinions.

5. Toyin Abraham and Lizzy Anjorin

This was possibly the messiest Nollywood-related social media feud ever.

Toyin Abraham was being dragged by Lizzy Anjorin, who was also calling her foul names. Lizzy claimed that a fan of Toyin had insulted her, and she was certain that her colleague was responsible.

The two had a protracted problem because Toyin insisted on being innocent throughout it all despite Lizzy profanely cursing her.

However, after an investigation was conducted and Lizzy apologized, they were able to reconcile.
