Nigeria has better family support system for raising kids — MI Abaga

MI Abaga MI Abaga

Nigerian rapper Jude ‘MI’ Abaga has shared his reasons for preferring to raise his future children in Nigeria rather than the United States.

During an appearance on the Japa Diaries podcast, the ‘One Naira’ artist explained that Nigeria's robust family support network makes parenting more manageable, especially when contrasted with the often hectic lifestyle in the U.S.

“There are a lot of things appealing about home, especially because we’re already ingrained in that system and because there’s a lot of support as well. I feel it’s very difficult for parents here,” MI said.

He mentioned that even though he and his wife, Eniola Mafe, have made a comfortable life in the United States, they continue to cherish the community bonds and family ties back home in Nigeria.

“Our family over here are all professionals. Sometimes you just find your nook in Nigeria. I think we’ve sort of found a space in Nigeria, but definitely, you want your kids to have a mixture of both,” he noted.

MI expressed his wish for his children to experience their formative years in Nigeria, with the possibility of relocating abroad in the future.

The rapper tied the knot with Eniola Mafe in September 2022, mere months after getting engaged. As of now, the couple has not welcomed any children.
