Model and actor, Ugo Nwokolo, has blamed media personality Nedu for his remarks during his appearance on the Honest Bunch podcast.
In an interview with Lucky Udu, Ugo stated that Nedu manipulated him into saying, “broke girls turn me on”. He clarified that the statement is false and that he was pressured into making such a statement.
The Mr Nigeria 2024 winner mentioned that he was naïve and new to the media industry, and he viewed Nedu as a mentor due to his extensive experience in the field. This led him to follow Nedu’s suggestions.
He revealed that he paid N5 million to Nedu for the interview to promote himself for the Mr International pageant in Poland. However, he was informed a day before the podcast that someone else would be joining.
Ugo disagreed with Nedu bringing in another guest after receiving payment and was promised a refund of N2 million after he made the appearance.
After sharing the topic for his discussion, “Eradicating classism and fostering an egalitarian society”, the media personality responded critically, “Mr Nigeria, this thing you dey talk na big grammar. Nigerians are dumb, they don’t like people that sound intelligent. They want Peter Obi. For your message to fly you have to sound dumb. You don’t have to be bringing all those big grammars because it’s not going to fly”.
Ugo recounted Nedu saying that in order to make the podcast interesting he would have to say things such as “poor girls turn me on. The poorer the girl the more attracted I am” and mention celebrity names, including activist VeryDarkMan.
Objecting to the move, Ugo felt compelled to comply with Nedu’s demands to avoid additional costs.
He apologized to Nigerians for his statements during the podcast. He said, “I take responsibility and I’m not trying to blame anybody. I’m just trying to tell Nigerians what actually happened and what prompted me to make that statement. Its against my character to say such a thing. Broke girls don’t turn me on, no. Nedu forced and manipulated me to say it. I deserve all the insults I’ve gotten so far because I was the one that said it. But I just need Nigerians to know what transpired.
That is not who I am, I’m sorry, I was a victim of manipulation. Poor girls don’t turn me on. I’m here to clear the air. In my lifetime, I’ve met manipulators, narcissist, gaslighters and scammers but Nedu is a discovery.”
