Nigerian singer and activist Seun Kuti has stirred online reactions after claiming that US music star Sean “Diddy” Combs once tried to reach out to him for a collaboration.
In a viral video, Kuti said Diddy approached him through multiple intermediaries rather than directly.
He also referenced a similar situation involving Kanye West, who allegedly reached out via Nigerian producer Bankulli, adding that he advised Bankulli to avoid industry temptations.
The video surfaced amid Diddy’s ongoing sex trafficking and abuse allegations between 2024 and 2026, reinforcing Kuti’s long-standing criticism of Western music executives, whom he has often accused of exploiting African artists.
"Na my side Diddy first take start, many of his envoys reached out. E just be like Kanye West. Kanye West send Bankulli to me. Make una go ask Bankulli wetin I tell am," he said.
His comments echo the anti-imperialist views of his late father, Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti.
His claim has raised mixed reactions, with some praising Kuti’s boldness while others dismissed his claims as attention-seeking, highlighting his divisive presence in Nigerian pop culture.
