The Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, has reacted to claims that the first COVID-19 death in the country was caused due to their negligence.

NCDC had announced on Monday morning that Suleiman Achimugu, a 67-year-old former PPMC boss, died of the virus

A family source who confirmed the death to Sahara Reporters accused the NCDC of negligence.

He said, “NCDC officials came to the house and took his blood specimen. Even though it tested positive, they never got back to us until he died at a hospital in Gwagwalada. We are all currently under quarantine in the house.”

In a tweet, the NCDC dissociated themselves from Achimugu's death as they claim that individual cases are the responsibility of the states and treatment centres.

"Kindly note that NCDC will not be commenting on the management of individual cases. The management of cases is the responsibility of States and treatment centres and they are doing their best under difficult circumstances", the tweet read.
