Afrobeats star Lekan Osifeso Jr., popularly known as Lojay, has opened up about the personal hurdles and skepticism he faced from close family members before breaking into the music industry.
Speaking during a recent interactive live stream session with digital content creator Gilmore, the "Monalisa" hitmaker recalled a poignant conversation with an influential relative who outrightly dismissed his artistic potential.
"I have an uncle who is now in politics. I won’t mention his name, but he is very rich and popular. When I wanted to start music, he told me I would never blow," Lojay revealed.
Rather than succumbing to the harsh criticism, the singer-songwriter explained that he channeled the doubt into motivation to work harder and prove his critics wrong.
Reflecting on his global success, Lojay expressed gratitude for staying resilient and urged his fanbase to remain steadfast in pursuit of their goals regardless of external opposition.
"Don't allow naysayers to discourage you. Continue believing in your dreams," he encouraged viewers.
Lojay achieved massive international acclaim following his 2021 collaborative EP "LV N ATTN" with legendary producer Sarz, featuring the viral hit "Monalisa"—which later received an international remix with Chris Brown.
