'My life took a turn when I lost my mother' - Rita Dominic recounts terrible experience

Multiple award-winning Nollywood star, Rita Dominic has made a revelation about the part of her life that people do not see on the big screens.

While speaking as a special guest for the Women of Valour event held in Accra on March 7, 2023, the screen goddess stated that her life became shattered after she lost her mother.

According to Rita, who has been acting in the Nigerian film industry for more than two decades, her mother was her biggest support and nurtured her acting skills as a child.

"... after my mother's funeral, life for me took a turn for the worst, both emotionally and financially. My father's health declined because you know, when a couple are very close and one dies, it affects the other one. I think my father stopped living the way my mother died.

"So he became ill, his health declined. My siblings managed to move him back to the UK and I was all alone in Nigeria. I found myself losing faith with slow growth in Nollywood. Waiting months between jobs felt like an eternity.

"And then I lost some people, whom I thought were friends. Very close friends, in fact some friends I considered family. It was just a very turbulent time in my life."

She added that all these negative experiences made her hit rock bottom in life, and at that point, she wondered how her life would have been if she still had her mother by her side.
