Damson Alade-Bo Idris, a British actor has eulogized his mother Philippa Idris as they attend the NAACP Image Awards together on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

The actor who won the award for his performance in “Snowfall,” took along his mother to witness his win at the star-studded award show.

During his acceptance speech at the awards ceremony, Damson stated that his mother flew from Lagos and while on the plane, she told him to win the award.

He said: "Before she got on the plane [from Lagos, Nigeria], she said to me, ‘Damson, if I come to Los Angeles, you better win…’”

Damson noted in an exclusive interview with TheGrio that his mother was his "good luck charm". He explained that despite being nominated multiple times, he had never won an award until choosing to go to the ceremony with her.

In his words: "I just think it’s all God’s timing,” he said from Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in downtown L.A. “I mean, I’m incredibly spiritual. My mom — I think my mom just had to be here with me. I mean, I’ve been nominated before; I didn’t bring her. The one year I bring her, I win. So, you know what I mean, she was a good luck charm. So yeah, I feel blessed. All Glory to God.”

After expressing gratitude to the NAACP for "blessing him" and his Snowfall family, Damson recognized all his "heroes" who had previously earned the award.

The 32-year-old actor has already received two nominations for his role as Franklin Saint in the six-season FX drama, nevertheless, he has never won the top prize until Saturday night's presentation.

Damson Idris made his big screen debut in the military dog story "Megan Leavey" (2017), but he made his breakthrough in the drug wars series "Snowfall" starring John Singleton.
