'My girlfriend cheated on me, refused to apologize, and I still had to beg her to stay' —LAX

In a candid resurfaced interview on #WithChude, Nigerian artist Damilola Afolabi, well known as LAX, shared a vulnerable story from his university days, revealing how he once begged a cheating girlfriend to remain in the relationship despite her refusal to apologize.

LAX described his then-girlfriend as a smoker and drinker. He recounted trying to get her to stop, then she said that she's going to stop.

One night, she returned home drunk. He helped her to bed after she threw up, but her phone kept ringing. Curious and suspicious, he checked it.

“I checked the phone, and I saw, ‘I enjoyed this night so much. I think we should do this again,” he said

When she woke up, and he confronted her with the evidence, her response was dismissive.

“As I showed her the phone, she just looked at me and said, ‘He’s just my friend.’”

LAX pressed further: “He’s just your friend? You just spent the night.” She replied coldly, “If you’re not okay with it, let’s just break up.”

"The confrontation happened rapidly. “Everything happened in one... 30 minutes,” he said. Despite his heartbreak and grief, LAX found himself in the position of pleading.

“It was me who was now begging... Baby, I say okay, see we can work about it... She said she doesn’t worry.

”He later discovered more about the other man—an older guy who had even interacted with him before.
