'My dad chose his new wife over me after my mother abandoned me as a baby' - Charles Inojie

Veteran Nollywood actor Charles Inojie has talked about his early issues and how his parents' divorce impacted him.

The famous actor stated in an interview with Chude Jideonwo that his mother left him when he was just 8 months old, leaving his grandmother with no choice but to nurse him.

He added that his father remarried and gave priority to his second wife over him, which made the situation worse.

The actor claims that his dad's second wife implored his father to choose between her and him since he was unable to leave the woman who was feeding his libido for his son.

The actor disclosed that he only spent eight months with his father before he departed and that his stepmother had ruined his life.

Additionally, he disclosed that at the age of 20, his stepmother pressured his father to stop providing for him, instructing him to hold off on getting a job until her child reached adulthood so they could go to college together.

The Nollywood icon didn't have any emotional connection to his mother, so when he finally visited her years later, their relationship was already severely damaged.

He said: "When I wanted to go to the University, I became back to the house to tell him I have gotten admission. The woman began to laugh, faced my Dad and told him ‘If this one has to go the University, he will wait for my own child to grow so they will go together’, that is a child I an older than with 18 to 20 years.

"I met him and we sat for close to thirty minutes, nobody talked. I was crying, he was crying. I said ‘I have to start going but that I am now out of school. My first work, they said Papa must pray for his child’. I bought a drink and put N5000 in an envelop and asked that he prays for me and he said he wasn’t going to touch it and that his conscience will not let him having not contributed a dime.”

Charles Inojie is one of Nollywood’s greats - as an actor, as a director, as a comic. He has made us laugh too many times to remember.
