Musicians use Fela as an excuse to smoke, chase girls - Seun Kuti

Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti has said that most musicians of today are only using his late father, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, as an excuse to smoke and chase girls.

Fela who founded Afrobeat is said to have been married to 27 women and is also known to smoke marijuana a lot and even during stage performances.

During an Instagram live chat with Ubi Franklin, Seun Kuti was asked to speak on claims by new generation artistes that his father inspired them.

"I think a lot of them grew up in Christian and Muslim homes, and use Fela as an excuse to smoke and chase girls", he said.

He also stated that the aspect of being rude to elders as displayed by the generation today was not picked up from Fela.

Seun Kuti also wondered why most of them who attribute certain behaviour of theirs to Fela are never seen being rude to oppressors in government like his father did.
