Motherland Cup: Jim Iyke, Larry Gaga, Amokachi team up for a mission

Popular film star, Jim Iyke has teamed up with music star, Larry Gaga and global football star, Daniel Amokachi to drive international African alliance with Motherland Heritage Cup 2026.

The three giants are locking their star influences to ensure that the Motherland Cup Africa Ltd led by Oluwatobi Johnson Fakayode successfully hosts the Motherland Heritage Cup 2026.

The trio promised to bring their best into the tournament using their star powers at the launch of the initiative, which had President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as grand patron and Prince Tajudeen Olusi as the life patron.

Putting their money where their mouth is, Daniel Amokachi picks up the role of the global brand ambassador, while Jim Iyke sits as a co-founder and chief strategy officer of the tournament.

According to the convener of the Motherland Heritage Cup, Fakayode expressed that the tournament is born from the success of the Motherland Festival & Expo 2025 — a landmark gathering of Africans and the global diaspora in Lagos, Nigeria.

“The Heritage Cup is a celebration of African culture, creativity, rhythm, humour, and identity — bringing together Africa’s biggest football legends, music stars, top comedians and artistes and global diaspora icons on a big platform,” Fakayode said.

Continuing, he said, “We are unlocking Africa’s greatest superpower and reuniting this continent with her diaspora through football, culture and entertainment. We are one family separated by history and reunited on one field.

“The world gave us FIFA World Cup in 1930, Africa gave us the Africa Cup of Nations in 1957 and today, in the heart of Lagos, Nigeria, a new dream is born and it is the Motherland Heritage Cup.

“This is a gathering of the African family and the nations of Afro-cultural descent across the continent, Caribbean and South and Latin America. We have had conversations and we will share more updates on our progress soon.”

Reeling out the next line of activities for the Motherland Heritage Cup 2026, Fakayode noted that it will include a charity exhibition match to be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, comprising both African and Afro-diaspora football legends playing for a charitable cause while mirroring the spirit of Motherland Heritage Cup 2026.

Fakayode expressed that the Motherland Heritage Cup 2026 is in partnership with the Nigerian Bank of Industry and the tournament will begin in November 2026.

The tournament is expected to be anchored in four cities in Nigeria championed by its host city, Lagos, and will reconnect Africans globally through identity, heritage, and participation, create structured opportunities for SMEs, investors, and governments, showcase elite talent from Africa and the diaspora on a global stage and transform Nigeria’s tourism highlighting the country as Africa’s first destination for trade and investment, international youth engagement, heritage and recreation.
