Mixed reactions trail video of Funke Felix Adejumo, wife of Bishop Felix Adejumo of the Agape Christian Ministries, advising people to marry from their tribe.

In the video making rounds, Funke Adejumo cautioned people to avoid marrying people who does not have same values and beliefs as she sighted Genesis chapter 24.

The President of the Funke Felix-Adejumo Foundation stated that a Christian marrying a Muslim with the aim of converting the person is wrong and would not work.

According to her, marriage amplifies the persons true character and attitude.

“Marry from your tribe. Gen 24. You cannot be a child of God and be dating a Muslim and tell me you’re going to convert him, you’re joking. After we marry, he is going to change. Marriage does not change people. Marriage amplifies who people are. Marriage is like money; its not good, its not bad. Money is not good, its not bad. Money takes on the character of the owner. If you’re a bad person and you have money, you’ll be the baddest. You will be very unkind, you’ll be wicked because money is an amplifier. If you’re a kind person and you have money, you’re going to be very kind. It’s the same thing with marriage. People hardly change. It is what is on the inside that marriage amplifies,” she said.

Since the video hit the internet, several social media users have reacted to the video.

samvail__: The tribe she meant isn’t what y’all think. She’s talking about religious beliefs! If you be Christian no marry Muslim because una go Dey argue about Jesus and Mohamed on a daily basis which will escalate to a lot of marital issues!

effedeborah: She’s talking about faith not actually tribalism

The tribe she is talking about here ..implies marry someone you both share same values and beliefs. Not tribe of a country

dscentcuz: I don’t know the rubbish this woman is saying o.. but I am Christian and my wife is a Muslim I am Igbo and she’s Yoruba from Kwara state. I don’t even need her to change her Religion I want her to continue being a Muslim. We have a son together and I won’t tell my son to choose between being a Christian or being a Muslim anyone he chooses is his choice. And yes my marriage has been blissful. Woman go just de on top pulpit de deceive crowd with her own opinion.

otoide_a: Imagine missing out on the love of your life because of religion

dayoibitoye: I wonder why people have a problem with this statement when it’s simply an issue of semantics. In this context, "tribe" takes on a broader meaning, referring to a human social group. It's not limited to ‘ethnicity’ but can be a group of individuals sharing common ideology and belief systems. Essentially, what she’s saying is that as a Christian, you should marry someone who aligns with your Christian beliefs and shares the same ideological perspective.

creativeoliver: As a Christian you don’t have any business marrying a Muslim and vice versa, make everybody answer their papa name. Marry from your tribe

berrryjune: From the beginning of that scripture, Abraham was dwelling amongst pagans and people who worshipped idols. He sent his servants out of that tribe where he dwelled to go to look for a tribe/place where the people worshipped God. So the tribe doesn’t mean igbo or Yorubas or Ashanti. It means as long as that person is a believer they are the tribe of God through Jesus.
Remember “whosoever “ tiv, urhobo etc believes in Jesus becomes children of God as the same spirit dwells in all who believes. One tribe

unlimitedla: I’ll pick good character over tribe or religious beliefs
