'Mide Martins pushed me into bleaching my skin' - Habibat Jinad recounts

Nigerian actress Habibat Jinad has recalled a remarkable experience she had with senior colleague Mide Martins.

In an interview with Biola Bayo on her talk show 'Talk To B', the actress detailed how Mide Martins had previously made fun of her skin tone while they were on a movie set.

Habibat said that while they were working on the film project of Mide's husband, Afeez Owo, one of their colleagues committed an infraction, and she was among the people punished as a result.

She added that Mide Martins made fun of her skin tone and said her face was as black as a monkey while they were in public.

Habibat Jinad continued, saying that she was so offended by Mide Martins' remarks that she thought about whitening her skin.

The thespian said not being able to withstand the pressure and criticisms she was receiving for her complexion, she made the choice to bleach her skin in 2012.

She said: “At a rehearsal ground at Afeez Owo’s set, something happened, a colleague of mine did something and I wasn’t the one who did that thing and they said we should kneel.

"Mrs. Mide Martins was there, my boss was there and some other people and Mide Martins compared it to a monkey’s skin. And it got to me. She even complained about my skin, saying I was too dark and this made me contemplate bleaching my skin to please her and others”.

In a surprising development, Habubat has stated that she is no longer bleaching her skin as she will only do what pleases her and not others.

She urged that people let her be by keeping their comments to themselves because she won't let them bully her anymore.
