Meet the X influencers who were allegedly sent to Ghana by President Tinubu

Social media has been thrown into a frenzy over the past few days following a recent trip by some popular Nigerian X influencers to Ghana. These influencers were alleged to have been sponsored by the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.

On Thursday, August 21, 2025, a group of X influencers travelled on a paid trip to Ghana, powered by Chisco Group NG, one of Africa’s leading transport companies.

The initiative was aimed at promoting Chisco’s transportation services while also giving the influencers the opportunity to experience Ghana’s culture, nature, and business environment.

Upon arrival, the influencers flooded X with videos and images, showcasing highlights of their trip. Their colleagues and followers celebrated them, sharing in their excitement.

However, as the group visited notable places in Ghana and began handling the local currency, some of them casually compared the prices of goods and services in Ghana to those in Nigeria.

What appeared to be harmless fun quickly escalated into a national issue, sparking heated debates between Nigerians and Ghanaians across social media platforms.

Some Nigerians and Ghanaians claimed that the trip was orchestrated by the Nigerian government to create a narrative that, although product prices in Nigeria had increased, they were still lower than those in neighboring countries such as Ghana.

What began as lighthearted comparisons soon birthed intense conversations and backlash from many Nigerians, alongside a handful of Ghanaians.

Another section of this report provides brief profiles of some of the 20 X influencers who participated in the trip.

MyNigeria explores the identity of some of the influencers who participated in the trip.

Ruth

One participant who has stirred the most controversy with her frequent comparisons between the Nigerian and Ghanaian economies is Ruth Agbukor, popularly known simply as Ruth.

Ruth Agbukor is a Nigerian veterinarian and a controversial social media brand influencer, often referred to as the “Fufu influencer” on X.

She hails from Agenebode in Edo State but currently resides in Lagos, and in 2024, she graduated with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Abuja.

Her X handle, It_Ruthie, represents a vibrant personality with experience in brand influencing, culinary arts, and forex trading.

Ruth's boldness and frequent controversies on X have earned her massive traction, making her one of the platform’s major voices. Her posts, often called “bangers,” are widely circulated across social media platforms.

Her online presence has attracted the attention of prominent figures such as singers Davido and Adekunle Gold, video director TG Omori, and investigative journalist David Hundeyin.

During their fun time in Ghana, Ruth posted a tweet comparing the price of petrol in Ghana to that in Nigeria.

“Fuel in Ghana is 14.3 cedis per litre = 2,000 naira. How are people coping??” she wrote.

The tweet immediately sparked heated reactions, prompting journalist David Hundeyin to respond.

Hundeyin alleged that the trip was indeed sponsored by the Nigerian government and the IMF to push influencers into making misleading comparisons between Ghana and Nigeria in order to prepare citizens for an upcoming tax hike.

His claims have since intensified discussions on X, with Nigerians and Ghanaians clashing over the matter. Where the conversation leads remains to be seen, but for now, it has created chaos across both online communities.

Seun

Seun, whose real name is Sunday Oluwaseun Obende, is another Nigerian X influencer on the trip. He is widely known as a controversial voice on the platform and is one of Afrobeats star Wizkid’s most devoted fans.

Though little is known about his personal life, Seun is believed to be from South-Western Nigeria, making him a Yoruba man.

He first rose to prominence during the “Twitter music banter” era, where intense rivalries between Wizkid’s fanbase (Wizkid FC) and Davido’s fanbase (30BG) dominated discussions. By actively participating in this banter, Seun gained massive recognition, building a brand around his witty, bold, and often divisive takes.

His influence made him a notable figure whose opinions are either widely celebrated or heavily criticized. Over time, his posts have triggered reactions from reputable Nigerian celebrities, some of whom have publicly addressed his criticisms.

Abazz

Similar to Seun, Abazz, whose real name is Abasifreke Williams Okon, hails from Uyo in Akwa Ibom State.

He also rose to prominence during the “Twitter music banter” period, aligning himself with Davido’s fanbase, the 30BG. His active engagement in fan wars helped him build a strong following, particularly among Davido supporters and netizens who enjoyed the online rivalry.

Like Seun, Abazz has leveraged these fan wars to create a niche for himself as a strong, controversial voice. His bold takes have also drawn responses from notable Nigerian celebrities, many of whom have reacted publicly to his criticisms.

Other popular influencers who embarked on the trip include:
