Mary Got fit is a Nigerian bodybuilder who is on a journey to become one of the biggest bodybuilders in the world.

Since she started bodybuilding, she has encountered a lot of challenges, which include discouraging comments from people.

In a recent interview with BBC News Pidgin, Mary opened up on how she started bodybuilding, and how she overcame the obstacles she faced throughout her journey.

Mary who started bodybuilding at the age of 22 is now a certified personal trainer and has participated in several competitions.

Mary is one of the many female bodybuilders who have had to grow a tough skin toward harsh and body-shaming comments thrown at her by society most especially her fellow women.

She recounted during the interview how someone told her that her body is disgusting and that her mother wasted nine months of suffering to give birth to her, only for her to come out this way.

Mary added that as a human being the comment got to her and that it is improper for someone to say such harsh words to kill her spirit. She said that she has not allowed any of those comments to weigh her down, but she is still pushing ahead.

She added that being a bodybuilder has boosted her confidence, made her meet notable people, and has also taken her to different places.

Under the comment session of the video interview with BBC News Pidgin on Facebook, the comments were nothing different.

A lot of people especially women body-shamed her and asked her to stop bodybuilding if she wants to get married and have a family.
