Veteran entertainer Charles Oputa, known as Charly Boy, has admitted that his nearly 48-year marriage now feels monotonous, stating that all marriages require continuous management.

Speaking in an interview on Yanga 89.9FM, the 76-year-old said he and his wife quarrel daily but always settle their disputes.

He compared their relationship to that of Tom and Jerry and explained that he remains committed because he prefers a familiar partner to an unknown one.

“All marriages are management, including my own. All marriages are management. My wife and I are like Tom and Jerry now,” he said.

He added, “No day we no dey quarrel. No day we no dey settle the quarrel. We go dey fix the quarrel dey go, Because, oyinbo people talk say the devil, you know, is better than the angel, you don’t know.”

Charly Boy illustrated the repetitiveness of long-term monogamy by likening it to eating the same soup every day, arguing that even a favourite meal would eventually lose its appeal.

“This year will be my 48th year of marriage to just one woman. Ah, the thing is boring now. It’s boring now, every day. If every day no Egusi, Egusi soup, you dey eat, you go like am like that?” he said.
