The Lagos State Government has reacted to complains about the performance of Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, KWAM 1, at the coronation of the Oniru of Iru Kingdom, Oba Abdul Wasiu Omogbolahan Lawal.

Many Nigerians had taken to social media to draw the attention of the Lagos State Government to what they saw as a breach of COVID-19 regulations in the state.

The state has now reacted by clarifying that KWAM 1 was not physically present at the event but performed virtually in line with COVID-19 regulations.

This was disclosed by the Chief Press Secretary to Lagos State Governor, Gboyega Akosile.

He said: “Contrary to reports in some quarters of the social media that King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall was invited to perform at the recent coronation ceremony of Alaiyeluwa Oba Abdul Wasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, the Oniru of Iru Kingdom, K1 was not physically present at the occasion.

“His performance was virtual in line with the new order.

“It is also important to state that the traditional rites and presentation of the Staff of Office and other instruments of appointment, were held under strict compliance with the COVID-19 protocols on social distancing.
