LIVESTREAMING: Hilda Baci set to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice

Former Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci is gearing up for another historic cooking feat, this time, she will attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.

The attempt, scheduled to last 16 hours, will begin on Friday, September 12, at Muri Okunola Park. The venue was moved from Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, after huge interest from the public.

While there is currently no official Guinness World Record for the largest pot of jollof rice, the feat has been attempted before. At Afrochella in 2019, a group of Ghanaians reportedly cooked a pot large enough to feed 200 people.

For her record-breaking attempt, Baci will use 250 bags of rice weighing approximately 5,278 kilograms, along with 1,583 kilograms of tomato paste. The custom-built pot measures six meters wide, 1.1 meters tall, and 1.3 meters deep.

The World Jollof Festival with Hilda Baci will be streamed live across social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

In a video posted on Instagram on Wednesday, September 10, Baci revealed that over 20,000 people have registered to attend the event, far exceeding the initial plan, hence the need to change the venue.

“Now, we put out a link for people to register to attend the event. And to my greatest surprise, over 20,000 people registered,” she said. “Your safety and comfort are very important to us, which is why we decided to move to Eko Hotels and Suites to accommodate more people.”

Baci, who gained global recognition for her Guinness World Record-breaking cook-a-thon in 2023, expressed gratitude to her fans for their continued support.

“It means so much to me and I don’t take it for granted. Who am I that you guys really care about what I am doing?” she added.
