Nollywood actor and filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has expressed his disappointment over what he describes as a high level of incompetence in Nigeria’s workforce.

On March 12, 2025, Afolayan took to his Instagram page to lament the inefficiency of many job seekers who, despite complaining about unemployment, fail to deliver when given opportunities.

He wrote, “l am so saddened by the high level of incompetence in our beloved country. A lot of people cry about not having a job, but when they get one, how efficient are they at it? I’m so pissed.”

His statement attracted mixed reactions from social media users, with some supporting his stance while others suggested that proper training could help improve employee performance.

flodoskii: It’s seems to be a general trend in our society & to improve efficiency in the Nigerian workforce, we must invest in targeted training and skill development programs. We must also encourage a culture of accountability which we lack in Nigeria and also encourage performance-based incentives, lastly let’s create a supportive work environment for continuous learning within our workforce.

omotolaamos: Most times the employers re looking at cheaper cost to recruit employees and employees are desperate to get job so they present themselves such way. Na when they get d job u go see employees dey complain about the job and employers dey complain about the employee. My thought though

lomeedarfresh: This is the problem … the youths just want fast money and don’t wanna put in the effort. It’s exhausting especially when hiring people for jobs and the sad reality is there is no remorse and you can’t do it all by yourself
